Expert's Corner
Happy Spring!
Jim White — Intertech Partner, Instructor and Director of Training
Hello and Welcome to the Intertech newsletter,
This month, we’ve got a Java focused newsletter. First, here are some recent Java developments and highlights from JavaOne:
· JavaFX, a hot topic at JavaOne, is an alternative to Ajax and other Web 2.0 technologies. Get the low down on JavaFx.
· Sun’s idea to "open source" all of Java is getting many reactions. One reaction is Apache’s announcement of it’s own Java implementation called Harmony.
· Along with open sourcing Java, Sun is developing open source Java products. Glass fish, an application server, was just released as a V2 Beta.
· If you’re using or planning to use JEE and RAD, Intertech announced it will be holding a public offering of it’s Complete JEE using RAD class on June 4 – 8 at Intertech. Sing up soon.
· For the Java ME developer, you've got to love Sun's new gismo that can be programmed to remote control just about anything. If you’re looking to get up to speed on Java ME, check out my book on Java Micro Edition.
For those of you new to the Twin Cities development community, look into the Twin Cities Java™ User Group (TCJUG). TCJUG is over a decade old and was one of the first Java user groups in America. Intertech founded the user group and today O' Rielly has joined us as a sponsor. Membership is free and from presentations on the Google Web Toolkit to best practices for Agile, you can find years of presentations online at Intertech’s website. Thanks to our very own Jeff Jensen for leading TCJUG as its president.
Thanks to those of you who attended my talk on Hibernate at No Fluff Just Stuff. As I mentioned, the talk was modeled after one of my DevX articles. Congratulations to fellow Intertech instructor and consultant Mark Kirby who delivered the presentation SOA & Event Driven Architectures (EDA)—Lessons from the field.
Happy Spring (or Hibernate… you choose),
Jim White
