Time — and Technology — March on

Refactoring C# code using Visual Studio 2005

by Andrew  W. Troelsen, Microsoft MVP, Intertech Training

Over 200 years ago, Benjamin Franklin wrote, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” That may have been true in Ben’s time, but in the 21st century, there’s yet another certainty — programming tools are always going to change.

Needless to say, some of these “improvements” don’t do very much to make a programmer’s life easier. But, thankfully, most of them do. And one of the latest — and best — is Visual Studio 2005.

Welcome to The Software Developer

Dominic Selly

Hi. I’m Dominic Selly, an instructor at Intertech and this month’s editor. Welcome to the latest issue of The Software Developer.

How much of your day do you spend re-working an existing code? If you’re like most programmers, it’s probably a considerable amount, and you’re probably looking for ways to cut down on the time spent making the code “better.” If so, I recommend you read this month’s feature article by Intertech’s Andrew Troelsen. In it, Andrew discusses ways you can use Visual Studio 2005 to reshape your code in an easier, more predictable manner.

In Coder's Corner, Intertech’s Jeff Jensen talks about the key features of Firefox, the new “techie” browser from Mozilla. And for articles on personal and professional growth, be sure to check out our Best of the Web section.

If you have a suggestion for a feature article — or if there are any programming tips you’d like for us to provide — please let us know. All comments are greatly appreciated.
