Anne Holland - MarketingSherpa.com
Newsletters may be as familiar as the Mars and Venus debates
Anne Holland, Marketing Sherpa speaks with Meryl K. Evans, Editor, eNewsletter Journal
The way Anne Holland sees it, there are two kinds of newsletters, and the distinctions may be as familiar as the Mars and Venus debates. Women prefer informational (educational) and men prefer sales-oriented language (solutions). [ Read More... ]

Bring Out Your Dead ... (With Apologies to Monty Python)
We can learn from the things that die. Sales Autopsy takes an original approach to examining the death of bad sales pitches. We do an autopsy on the newsletter to see if it solves the mystery of what makes a hit newsletter.
Other evidence of successful newsletters is examined in an interview with a penguin. Actually, we talk with Michael Katz of Blue Penguin Development who says trail doesn't go cold when it comes to newsletters.
For those of us too familiar with the dreaded writer's block, our friend Jenna Glatzer at Absolute Write has the answer. Check out her latest book, Outwitting Writer’s Block, on Amazon.com
RSS is fast becoming a buzzword. Newsletter gurus are split on whether or not RSS is the answer to putting out newsletters without fears of spam programs sending it to the junk pile. Dissect what the experts have to say in the "War of the RoSeS".
Let us know if our lab passes with flying colors or needs CPR based on how much benefit you get from this newsletter by taking a quickie reader survey and you could win a Handspring Prism handheld device.
Best wishes, Meryl K. Evans Editor

This Issue's Dilemma:
War of the RoSeS The gurus disagree on whether or not RSSifying newsletters should be a replacement for sending newsletters via email, which often don't make it into a mailbox because they've been spammed out. What are your thoughts on the possibility of RSS-based newsletters replacing email-based newsletters?
What would they advise?

Rants and Raves
Sales
Autopsy
I’ve
been fascinated by TV programs where the main characters solve criminal cases
by studying bio-clues through autopsies. Don’t expect to find me making a real
career switch to crime scene investigations or medical examination. Too gory
for my wimpy taste. Instead, I’ll conduct a nice, clean autopsy of the Sales
Autopsy newsletter. You won’t have to close your eyes at any part of this
program.

Last Issue We Asked You:
Too Cheap for Hired Help
I want to start an e-newsletter. My business is very small and is just getting off the ground, so I can't afford to pay for a service to distribute the e-newsletters, manage the email lists, and view the tracking reports. What can I do to manage an enewsletter (send it and manage the mailing list)? Just create an email and send BCC to the mailing list, use a free service like NotifyList.com, or something else?
