The Pro Way to Go Green

Saving time, energy and costs with Intel® vPro™

by Meryl K. Evans, Editor, Connected Digest

A character in the TV show Alias once said, "I should probably tell you that this kind of energy knocks out computer circuitry. If it's pointed at the sky, it could take down planes." While a typical PC won't do anything nearly so drastic, a company with hundreds of PCs can find itself paying big bucks to manage all those dispersed systems — and waste a lot of energy.

Maximize PC energy resources ... Finding time ... Mean bosses

The interview for this month's feature is fascinating. Who knew that tools exist so tech support personnel can turn computers on and off from remote locations? No longer do employees have to waste energy and leave their PCs running 24/7 for patches. This month's feature story explores how to save time and cost in managing a large fleet of PCs.

Fighting for time takes a lot of energy and leaves little room for rest and recovery. Read how you can make the most of the time you have. Unfriendly bosses can make a person's work life miserable. When someone comes to work angry or frustrated with everything, it saps any energy gained from the previous night's sleep. What advice do you have for an employee who's fed up with the boss?

Are we maximizing all of the newsletter's energy for you? Complete our not-quite-one-minute reader survey, and you could win a Westinghouse LCD digital photo frame and SD memory card package.

Best,

This Issue's Dilemma

How do you deal with an evil boss?

I'm sure many employees have run into a mean, rude boss in their careers. Right now, I'm dealing with one, and she's making life at work miserable. Mine sounds almost like the clueless boss from The Office, only she's a real person. She loves to point out people's mistakes and reprimand them in public. She yells and puts people down.

I can tell others feel the same way — there's an air in the environment that's hard to ignore. Unfortunately, Boss Woman has been here for over 20 years, making the likelihood of her leaving smaller than marginal. I've tried to stay away and keep my head down, but this situation is affecting my mood and outlook on life.

Do others just keep a stiff upper lip and look for another job? Or how do they deal with a stressful, depressing situation?

Last Issue's Dilemma

Help! I need more time!

Since it's impossible to add another hour to the 24-hour day, I need an alternative. How can I find time to do all the things I need to complete at work? No doubt, many managers/supervisors deal with this challenge.

How have you overcome the "I can't get everything done" syndrome?

— Ed, Manager
