Hopping on the Deregulation Train…

Our “Feature Story” gives practical advice about how to prepare for deregulation in case it comes to your area. Jon T. Brock, Chief Operating Officer of UtiliPoint International, explains what deregulation means, who it affects, and what local governments need technology-wise in case they decide to opt-in to deregulation. Linda Y., City Auditor, also asked about preparing for deregulation in the “What Is Your Best Advice?” column last issue; you can see the responses here.  In addition, there are several informative articles that should keep you up-to-date on the latest technology happenings.

Please let me know how successful we are at including articles to you. Write me about any specific topics you want to see covered. Thanks again for reading MTJ and I look forward to hearing your views. You can win a color Palm Pilot by completing the survey below.

What Is Your Best Advice?

Last Issue's Dilemma:

How is your organization preparing for deregulation?

"Deregulation is a hot topic, but my county government hasn’t taken any steps to prepare for it yet."

"I know that electric, gas and communication utilities will all be affected. I understand that competition is supposed to be good for us and that will supposedly keep rates low and sustain jobs. But I guess I’m not sure exactly how we will be affected on a local level; I can’t see the full picture yet."

"Someone told me I could research more about this at the local library. Do you have any other suggestions for retrieving deadline and preparation information? And do you have any suggestions as to simplifying this preparation?"

- Linda Y., City Auditor
