The Mother of All Event RFPs
How to get the most out of your supplier selection process
by Linda Kazares, President of ConnectedIn Media Inc.
When some people go fishing, they grab up any old fishing rod, use whatever bait they can dig up and head on out to the closest lake or stream.
Other people take their fishing more seriously. They buy a specific type of rod and reel. They make sure they have the right bait for the type of fish they’re going after. They speak to other fishermen to find the best place to try.
Recreational fishermen usually wind up just drowning worms. But serious fishermen more often than not come home with a good catch.

Welcome to the latest issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal — the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.
Do you have an effective process for qualifying potential vendors? Does your RFP deliver the information you need to select vendors for your events? If you answered “no” to either of these questions, you’ll want to read this issue’s feature article.
In it, Linda Kazares, president of ConnectedIn Media Inc., explains how to set up an effective RFP, distribute it and get the most out of your vendor selection process. With almost 20 years of producing large-scale trade shows, conferences and meetings under her belt, Kazares gives insights based on her real-life experiences.
Last month, a reader asked how to get his boss to get real with his job assignments. Check out what our readers have to say. This month, another reader wants opinions on the best way to collect names at tradeshows. What do you think?
If you have a problem you’d like our readers to help you with, please let us know. Or maybe you have a story idea you’d like us to cover? If you send us either of these, we’ll enter you in our drawing for a special prize — a Kenwood two-way radio. We appreciate your input!

What's Your Best Advice? |

Last Issue's Dilemma
How do I get my boss to join the rest of us on planet Earth?
Like most event professionals, every minute of my workday is accounted for, and overtime has become the norm. Yet, my boss keeps asking me to help on projects that have nothing to do with my job. And if that’s not enough, he often asks me to take his place in department meetings, making my planned workday an even bigger disaster.
How can I get my boss to be more realistic in his demands? What do your readers think?

This Issue's Dilemma:
How do I put the
“count” back into headcount?
We have a good turnout at every one of our tradeshows. But you’d never know it, based on the number of leads we produce. Obviously, we’re dropping the ball somewhere.
What are the best ways to collect names at tradeshows? What's the latest in technology? Do badge scanners still work? What do your readers think?
— Jack, Event Organizer
