Welcome to the latest issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal — the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.
If you’re like most event professionals, your days are usually jammed full with a thousand things to do at once. But in December, there’s typically a blessed lull of a week or two when you can actually hear yourself think. It’s also a great time to get organized for next year while you reflect on how this year’s events went. In this month's feature article, Allison Saget, author of The Event Marketer's Handbook, provides suggestions on how you can use your “break” to your full advantage.
Last month, we included a dilemma from one of our readers who wanted to know how she could get her boss to give her a raise. See what your counterparts have to say. This month, a “newbie” to the event industry is looking for some pointers on where to start. He’d really appreciate any advice you can offer.
Thanks for all of your input, and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Event Organizer’s eJournal. May your day be full of good food and good fun!

Last Issue's Dilemma
How do I get my boss to “show me the money?”
I’ve been in my current position for almost a year, and my events have all done well. I’d like to ask for a raise. The problem is: I don't know how to prove my worth. What criteria/methods should I use when I meet with my boss?

This Issue's Dilemma:
What’s the 4-1-1- on event planning?
The president of my company decided we need to start putting on events to broaden our client base and find new prospects to buy our products. Guess who was picked to be the brand-new event manager? Me!
Of course, I applied for the job, but I’ve never done anything more with an event than helping out when needed. Now, I’m beginning to wonder where to start. What do I need to do before I even begin planning an event? I’d appreciate any help I can get.
— Sam, Event Manager
