First Impressions That Wow
Ways to make your voicemail and email work for you
by Josiane Feigon,
president and founder of TeleSmart Communications
First impressions lead to over 80 percent of all the sales you make. When you’re on the phone, your prospects form their first impressions of you within seven seconds. With email, they take about three seconds. Needless to say, time is very condensed when “meeting” someone new in either of these two media.

Welcome to the latest issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal — the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.
When’s the last time you went to a company on a cold call and actually got to meet the person you went to see? Never? How often do you telephone a prospect and have that person answer the phone? Rarely? It’s not surprising. Everyone seems to be busier than ever before. And so, we rely on voicemail and email to reach the hard-to-reach. But do you know how to frame your messages to get the elusive response from your prospects?
In this month’s feature article, Josiane Feigon explains how to use the new dynamic duo — voicemail and email — to create the right first impression of you and your company. And she provides examples to illustrate her key points. The president and founder of TeleSmart Communications, Ms. Feigon has years of experience helping companies and individuals develop more efficient telephone and on-line communications. If you missed her first article on cutting through the clutter, be sure to check out that one, too.
This month, instead of a reader’s dilemma, we’ve included some questions from Ms. Feigon in our What’s Your Best Advice? section. Please take a few minutes to tell all of us how you create the right first impression for your company — and how you measure your success at it. Next month, Feigon will comment on your input and provide suggestions for improvement.
Last month, a reader asked about hiring vendors while “on the road.” Be sure to read the advice several readers sent in about this all-too-familiar problem in the event industry.
Last of all, I’d like to extend my congratulations to Crystal Hines of AIA Florida. She's this quarter’s winner of an Apple
iPodTM. If you haven’t entered our drawing yet, please do. All it takes is a few minutes of your time.

What's Your Best Advice? |

Last Issue's Dilemma
On the
road— ouch!
I have an
established group of vendors I work with locally. They’re very good at what they
do and are very professional in providing all the services I need. But every
time I hold an event out of town, I seem to have trouble with vendors in other
cities.
How can I find good
people to work with when I’m going on the road? I’d really like whatever advice
your readers have to offer. Thanks.

This Issue's Dilemma:
How do you put your best foot forward?
In this month’s feature article, I discuss creating first impressions. How do you make sure you communicate the right things in the right way — so people form a positive impression of you and your company? And how do you measure your success at it? Your counterparts and I would like to know.
— Josiane Feigon, TeleSmart Communications
