Editorial Corner

Welcome to the latest issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal — the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.

You’ve probably noticed a new look to our newsletter. After a year-and-a half, we decided it was time for some changes. So, we’ve cleaned up the layout, made the articles easier to read, updated the colors and even changed the masthead. We hope you like our new look. Any comments you have would be appreciated. And now, on to this month’s content.

How do you plan your next event? Do you look at how the last one was pulled together and hope for the best? Many people do. But to hold a successful event requires a lot of up-front work.

This month’s feature article explains why a marketing plan is the key to event success. Written by Allison Saget, an event marketing expert, this article provides guidelines for you to follow so that your next event will be successful in multiple terms, not just attendance levels.

In last month’s issue, we included a dilemma on how to close out all those distractions that can keep you from getting your work done. See what your counterparts have to say about this issue. Josiane Feigon, president and founder of TeleSmart Communications, also provides her input. An expert on developing more efficient telephone and on-line communications, Ms. Feigon authored last month’s very well-read feature article on this topic. This month, another reader would like to find out how she can hire good vendors in other cities when she holds an out-of-town event. What do you think?

If you have a problem you’d like some help with — or if you have an idea for a future article — please let us know. Your input helps us make our newsletter more relevant for all our readers!

If you would like to unsubscribe, use the link provided at the bottom left corner of the newsletter.

What's Your Best Advice?

Last Issue's Dilemma

How do I “turn off the noise” without turning off people?

In my line of work, I help professionals develop efficient, focused and strategic telephone and on-line communications. I’d like to ask your readers: What types of communications devices do you have on your desktop? And how do you survive these distractions?

— Josiane Feigon, TeleSmart Communications

This Issue's Dilemma:

On the road— ouch!

I have an established group of vendors I work with locally. They’re very good at what they do and are very professional in providing all the services I need. But every time I hold an event out of town, I seem to have trouble with vendors in other cities.

How can I find good people to work with when I’m going on the road? I’d really like whatever advice your readers have to offer. Thanks.

— Margie, Event Manager
