Editorial Corner

Welcome to the latest issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal — the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.

Remember the old days, when if you couldn’t reach someone at work, you had to leave a message with the receptionist or an assistant? Nowadays, there are all sorts of ways to contact people — voicemail, email, faxes, etc. But being accessible all the time can be a double-edged sword. We get the messages we need right away, but we also get a lot of messages that can be handled later.

This month’s feature article, written by Josiane Feigon, gives pointers on how to prioritize this overwhelming influx of communications — and details how to cut through the clutter. Ms. Feigon is the president and founder of TeleSmart Communications, and she has over 12 years of experience helping companies develop more efficient telephone and on-line communications, so her insights are dead-on. And watch for her future articles which we’ll be publishing on a bimonthly basis.

This month, in a change of pace, Ms. Feigon poses some questions for you in our What’s Your Best Advice? section. Please take a few minutes to let her — and all our readers — know how you function in this modern world of ours. Next month, Ms. Feigon will comment on your input and provide suggestions for improvement.

Last month, a reader asked about working with nonprofits. Check out what your peers had to say. And if you have a dilemma of your own, or if you have any suggestions for how we can make our newsletter more relevant to your business, please let us know. Your comments are always appreciated.

What's Your Best Advice?

Last Issue's Dilemma

How can I help nonprofits profit from their association with me?

I recently joined a company that helps nonprofit associations plan and execute their meetings/events. In my short time at this job, I’ve found that the needs of these organizations and their management structures are very different than those of mainline companies and for-profits.

Do I need to work differently with these associations to help them succeed? If so, can any of your readers help me understand my clients and their needs so I can help them produce better meetings and events?

— Rob, Events Planner

This Issue's Dilemma:

How do I “turn off the noise” without turning off people?

In my line of work, I help professionals develop efficient, focused and strategic telephone and on-line communications. I’d like to ask your readers: What types of communications devices do you have on your desktop? And how do you survive these distractions?

— Josiane Feigon, TeleSmart Communications
