Welcome to the latest
issue of Event Organizer’s eJournal —
the newsletter that focuses on helping event organizers, planners and producers
increase attendance, delight attendees and make more money at their events.
Do you remember the last time you got together with
friends and someone starting telling jokes? Chances are being around all that
fun made you feel happy and de-stressed. Humor is like that. It makes people
feel good. So, why not try putting some laughter in your next event?
In this month’s
feature article, veteran comedian and
comedy writer, Ken Lynch, explains why you should do just that. And he gives
you some valuable pointers on how to determine what kind of comedian is right
for you — and how to find that performer.
Last month, a reader asked
how to keep his events on track even though his team members were clamoring for
time off around the holidays.
See what your counterparts had to say about this dilemma. And
please provide whatever advice you can to another reader who’s having trouble
doing everything on her own.
It’s hard to believe, but
this is our last issue of the year. Thank you for all the support you’ve shown
us. We look forward to hearing from you about how we’re doing — and how we can
make our publication more relevant to you in the coming year. Happy Holidays!

Last Issue's Dilemma
Should it be ho-ho-ho or no-no-no?
The holidays are rapidly approaching, and just about
everyone on my team has put in a request for time off to celebrate. Last year,
I had to struggle to keep our event planning on track because so many people
were MIA between November and December.
I want to give my team members their
well-deserved time off, but I can’t let our event plans come to a standstill.
Should I try to limit time off over the holidays? Require OT for the remaining
time leading up to the holiday season? Or admit defeat, and try not to plan any
events that will take place before February?

Event Manager

This Issue's Dilemma:
How could Greta Garbo ever say, “I want to be
alone”?
I’m a “one-man show” at my
company. But when it comes to making sure everything is prepared and ready to
go at a location, I can’t do it all myself. Sometimes, the president of my
company drafts people to help me on-site, but my “assistants” are less than
enthusiastic.
Is there some way I can
make this a more attractive proposition so people will actually volunteer? Or
should I beg for an increase in budget so I can hire some temp help?
— Jan, a lonely, lonely
woman
